There’s lots of minerals our bodies need, but today we’re looking at Magnesium – this one’s kinda important…it’s involved in more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body and is important for maintaining normal muscle and nerve function, heart rhythm and bone formation. Not enough magnesium can lead to muscle spasms, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, anxiety attacks and migraines. In other words, if you’re not consuming enough of this mineral then you can end up in all sorts of trouble.
So what should we be eating to get our daily dose of magnesium? Well, there’s rice, wheat or oat bran, coriander, pumpkin or watermelon seeds, cocoa powder (for the chocolate lovers), flax seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, brazil nuts, almonds and cashews. A 100-gram serve of any combination of these foods will equal 80-100% of your daily needs, so, if you want a healthy heart and healthy muscles, eat up.
